Second Helpings Poster Design

Poverty continues to exist in our society, and design has the power to shape how people become aware of this issue. In Indiana, Second Helpings works to address food insecurity within local communities through food rescue, meal preparation, and culinary job training.

For this project, I created a series of three awareness posters that communicate food insecurity while staying true to Second Helpings’ vision, mission, and existing visual identity. Before designing the posters,
I considered what their core message is and how it could be communicated most effectively to a broader audience. I focused on using clear language and visuals that respected their established design style, while also refreshing the overall look. I also aimed to reflect both the organization’s strong sense of purpose and its welcoming, people-centered approach.

As an additional exploration, I redesigned several Instagram posts using the same visual language as the posters. With so many people engaging with social media daily, I wanted to explore how simple and easy-to-read visuals could encourage more people to pay attention to issues of food insecurity.
